About this Event
Please join us for a special night of watching the Vice Presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence live, with the She+ Geeks Out Community. We'll also be volunteering to increase civic participation by sending letters to voters.
Participate in as much or as little as you want. Introverts welcome!
As a mission-focused social enterprise whose purpose is to support those who are seeking a more equitable workplace, She+ Geeks Out is rebranding to She+ Votes Out until November as a way to show our support for voting out hate, discrimination, and fear-based thinking. It starts with each of us. Even when it feels hopeless, remember you are not alone. We are a community. And we will fight for equity, always.
Let's come together on October 7, 2020 to watch the VP debate, and take real action toward making a difference.
Sending a Vote Forward letter is one of the easiest things you can do to increase turnout. It takes two minutes and one stamp, and meaningfully increases the odds that the recipient will vote. A concrete action you can take, no matter where you live, to get unlikely-to-vote fellow citizens to the polls. We're asking everyone joining us to commit to writing at least 5 letters during the event!
Agenda:
8:00-9:00 - Letter Writing, and small group networking
9:00-10:30 - Group watch party of VP Debate
How is this going to work?
First, you'll need to create an account with Vote Forward to get your addresses for the letter writing portion of the night. You can do that at votefwd.org.
This will NOT be a Zoom meeting (yay!)... you'll be able to network in small groups of up to six people per table prior to and after the webinar. You get to choose where you 'sit' and there will be lots of pre-created topics that will be work and fun-related (furbaby and humanbaby pictures, book ideas, TV show obsessions, all welcome here).
During the panel, you'll be able to chat and ask panelists questions, which can be upvoted! You'll get all the info on how to access the platform ahead of time and below is a screenshot of what you can expect it to look like when you're in and virtually talking with people!
This event is a womxn-focused event that intends an inclusive definition of womxn. We are welcoming and respectful of womxn, including trans womxn and those who are nonbinary, gender non-conforming, and anyone who identifies as a womxn in a way that is significant to them. We also welcome allies who are committed to creating environments that are supportive of people who are typically underrepresented in the workplace and beyond.
Please make sure to read our code of conduct before coming to our event!
"I absolutely loved the tables! IRL events I have horrible social anxiety so it's super hard for me to dive into a conversation by walking up to a group. Having these set topics made me feel instantly welcomed and able to really get into the topics with everyone. I wish more events were run this way."
"For being a virtual event, it was surprisingly easy to engage and feel connected to people. I loved the UI with the tables and table topics, and the speaker part worked very well too."
"Wonderful content and great conversations. This was my first event and I found it very valuable. I also loved the virtual interface, it's very user-friendly."
"The speeches were intriguing and the online forum was incredible! The virtual chairs and tables where attendees could mingle, offered a perfect alternative to physical meetups during our time of social distancing."
