Industry analysts expect the global market for healthcare information technology systems to surpass $50 billion by 2014 while the 2009 HITECH Act has allocated $20 billion in tax credits to incent healthcare providers to adopt electronic health records technology.

With their sights set on nothing less that revolutionary change in the healthcare industry, companies like IBM, Microsoft and Google are exploring ways to drastically improve patient care, shrink out-of-control costs, cut drug development times and reduce or eliminate common disease that kill millions each year. Relying on massive stockpiles of historical data, the healthcare IT industry is regularly launching new tools and techniques for analyzing everything from patient diagnosis and drug interactions to hospital administrative costs and insurance claims.

Mark AndersonHe is one of the leading national speakers on healthcare and physician practices and has spoken at more than 850 conferences and meetings since 2000. He has spent the last 37+ years focusing on Healthcare – not just technology questions, but strategic, policy, and organizational considerations.


Dr. Martin Kohn, Chief Medical Scientist, IBM – Dr. Kohn is Chief Medical Scientist for Care Delivery Systems in IBM Research. He is a leader in IBM's effort in collaborative care for addressing the challenges to primary care and access to healthcare. He also supports the transformation of healthcare and development of accountable care organizations. His research work includes healthcare population analytics and the role of expert systems in the clinical decision process, including the use of the Watson supercomputer in healthcare. He speaks frequently on the issues on healthcare transformation, the role of information technology, the Patient Centered Medical Home and clinical decision support. Dr. Kohn is an emergency physician with over 30 years of hospital-based practice and management experience. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American College of Physician Executives.
