Discover Long Island, the region’s official tourism promotion agency and destination marketing organization was recently awarded the “Best Social Media” in the nation by the US Travel Association. This award recognizes the innovation and hard work of Discover Long Island, who is charged with driving the region’s $6.3 billion annual visitor economy, to transition from traditional marketing tactics to a social media strategy that focuses on bolstering community pride and creating personal and emotional connections through storytelling. Transitioning from a marketing message to an influencer persona that included YouTube videos, Podcasts, TikToks, Instagram Stories and more (like bloopers), provided a personalized glimpse into our organization, our CEO, and our team members. This new marketing method put the spotlight on Discover Long Island as a team of local residents working hard for Long Island businesses and helped to establish the organization as one of the top trusted online sources for Long Island information.
